Sector: Education
Service: Building Surveying

Hookway’s experienced building surveyors have particular expertise in working with schools and academies to help manage, maintain and improve their buildings. Over the years we have worked in partnership with more than 150 schools, colleges and academies and have developed a clear and sympathetic understanding of the unique requirements of this sector.

Helping prioritise vital repairs

We are passionate about education and believe in creating and maintaining the best possible learning environments for students. A Condition Survey and resulting Prioritised Maintenance Report are often the starting point for what we do.

One example of this is the work that we do for Excalibur Academies, a Multi Academy Trust that manages 11 schools and academies located throughout Wiltshire, Berkshire and Bristol. We carry out Condition Surveys for the schools and academies within their Trust; the Prioritised Maintenance Reports that we produce are used to help plan and implement critical preventative maintenance works.

What's included

The condition survey includes a visual inspection of all main elements of the school building, and photographing and detailing any work required. All information is then presented in a comprehensive Prioritised Maintenance Report which includes professionally estimated costs for repairs and refurbishment.

Required work is prioritised in order of urgency to help the school plan and implement repairs and refurbishments in the most effective and timely way. Information is clearly presented and the at-a-glance ‘traffic light’ system makes it easy to see exactly what work needs to take priority. Read more about Hookway's Condition Surveys .

Glowing feedback

Excalibur’s Chief Finance Officer, Karen Davies, is delighted with the work that we do. She said;

"Hookway really understand schools – including their needs and the financial pressure that they are often under - and we have a long-standing and very positive working relationship with the company.

"The report that they produce supports simple and effective planning of building maintenance and repairs. It gives schools in our Trust the information they need to manage their maintenance and request funding, as well as supporting informed decision making when it comes to allocating funds between the schools.

"The information in the report is well presented, and the at-a-glance ‘traffic light’ system used makes it easy to see exactly what work needs to take priority. We also find it very helpful to have a document that is easy for school Governors, Principals and Directors to understand.”
