Project: Heating System Upgrade with Air Source Heat Pumps

Contract: £1.2 Million

Following on from its successful management of an internal refurbishment project at St Peter’s High School Sixth Form Centre, Hookway has recently overseen a significant heating project at the school.

Valued at approximately £1.2 million, the project spanned several months and involved the removal of outdated chimneys and gas heating systems, and the installation of new air source heat pumps.

Ensuring reliable heating in a school environment is crucial, as heating failures can lead to significant disruptions, including school closures. Such interruptions not only affect the daily operations of the school but also hinder students’ learning and well-being. The installation of this new heating system was therefore meticulously planned and executed to minimise any impact on the children’s education and to maintain a comfortable environment which was conducive to learning.

Benefitting from a Wealth of Experience

The school needed to work with a reliable partner on this endeavour and Hookway were able to offer 15 years’ of valuable experience with air source heat pump installations. Norton St. Philip First School in Bath was the first to benefit from our expertise in this area, and since then, we have successfully completed numerous similar projects, including those at Spaxton, Redstart and Holy Trinity Primary School to name a few.

As a result of this heating project, the school has not only enhanced the energy efficiency of its building, but it has also managed to preserve its aesthetic appeal by removing unsightly chimneys and outdated gas heating systems. Thanks to Hookway’s extensive experience and commitment to quality, a highly successful and sustainable solution was ultimately delivered to the client.

Our involvement included the following:

  • Condition Surveys & Feasibility Studies: A thorough evaluation of the school’s current heating systems was undertaken which allowed areas for improvement to be identified.
  • Design and Planning: A solution was then proposed which integrated modern heating solutions with the client’s specific needs. This plan received approval from the school.
  • Project Management: From inception to completion, the entire project was managed by the Hookway team. This helped to ensure that the work met the required standards and the agreed deadlines.

“Hookway have worked in collaboration with us to deliver this transformation project and have provided regular clear communication throughout which has helped with the smooth running of the project. The project team have all played a vital role in this year-long programme and we’re delighted the project has finished on time and on budget.”

“The needs of the school were always at heart and I felt that I had a voice in the process. The two new classrooms are fantastic. They are light, airy and spacious, and the children love them. The children refer to them as the ‘Posh Wing’.”

“Hookway recently secured funding through CIF to install a new playground surface (MUGA) for our front playground to help improve the PE opportunities and safety aspects for the children. The children are over the moon about their new playground, and are already enjoying safer and more interesting playtime and sports lessons.”
