New Office Development for Nailsworth in the Cotswolds

The Nailsworth Mills Estate was originally a Woollen Mill set in the Cotswold village of Nailsworth and surrounded by an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With the decline in the industrial sector, the site has in recent years been developed to provide alternative business opportunities and has shops, restaurants, offices and factory units as well as a garden centre on site.

The challenge

The owners wished to extend the facilities by the construction of an office block to house the UK offices of d&b audiotechnik the German loudspeaker and amplifier manufacturer. The site would require a sensitive design to meet stringent planning requirements whilst also having significant issues with the ground conditions which needed expensive piled foundations.

The solution

In order that the scheme was delivered within a defined budget Hookway was appointed to take a proactive role in the development of the design by ensuring rigorous cost advice to the Architects The Falconer Partnership. Hookway provided cost advice throughout the design process and produced the tender documentation for a traditional tender being offered to local building contractors. We continued to provide cost advice and detailed cost reporting as well as full financial management throughout the contract, which ensured a value for money solution was achieved for the client.

The result

The office block provides a sympathetic design solution in a very special site whilst enhancing local  job opportunities in  the Stroud valley.

Testimonial

“Tom's advice and guidance, were as usual exemplary and he helped trouble-shoot any practical problems that arose to get the work completed on time and in budget. ”

“Hookway came highly recommended and we are absolutely delighted with the project.”

“The whole project was entirely ‘self-sufficient’ as far as the school leaders were concerned, apart from pre-agreed meetings/decisions along the way, and the building was completed to a very high spec in a safe and efficient way. We would have no hesitation in recommending Hookway to other schools.”
