Most construction projects have a lengthy duration and thus require the contractor(s) to be paid for works done to date on an interim basis (monthly being commonplace). Payments made must representative of the works done.

Hookway is able to undertake such evaluation and provide certification to advise on the sum properly due to the parties. Our surveyors will ensure that the sum certified is a true value of works done and advise on contractual matters in relation to payments, withholding payments, VAT and other such matters. The provisions of The Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act contain many prescriptive ‘rules’ that must be adhered with regarding payments and so professional certification and advice in this regard is very important, especially for inexperienced clients.

Once works are complete the final account sum will need to be agreed with the contractor(s). The sum due can often be a source of disagreement as it will depend on many factors such as number of variations, and any contractual claims made by the parties. The early appointment of a Quantity Surveyor should result in any issues arising being resolved as works progress, however, agreement of the final sum due can often be a long process. Hookway is able to assist in the preparation or agreement of a final account at any stage of the project and will work with all parties to achieve a swift resolution to valuing the works undertaken. We are able to assist both contractors, sub-contractors and all other clients.

Should any claims be made under the contract by any party we are able to offer professional contractual advice and assistance to any party to help explain the issues and provide assistance in achieving a satisfactory resolution. Our professional team have a detailed knowledge of all the commonly used construction contracts and keep up to date on new case law and relevant legal matters to always be able to provide practical and relevant advice.

“Tom's advice and guidance, were as usual exemplary and he helped trouble-shoot any practical problems that arose to get the work completed on time and in budget. ”

“Tom Bishop led us through the two-year process with a calm and professional demeanour. His contribution to the project was central to the completion of the building on-time (during the pandemic) and the design outcomes have suited our teaching and performance needs completely. A highly successful design and architectural project.”

“Hookway has been vital in the process of applying for this funding. We handed them responsibility and they delivered a concise and detailed package of information which included everything required to submit to Salix. They made it easy and took it out of our hands. We can happily say that Hookway was crucial to us being successful and we look forward to working with them on the 2nd phase of application. ”
