Flat roof project for St. Rose's completed ahead of schedule

Hookway was engaged by St. Rose's school to recover and insulate some large and dilapidated 30 year old flat roofs. The roofs, which covered areas of the school built in the 1960’s, were beginning to leak and were failing to provide adequate insulation.

St Rose’s school, in Stroud, Gloucestershire, provides highly valued specialist therapy and care to pupils with special needs. Many of the school's students have physical disabilities, sensory, learning and communication difficulties and some also have complex health needs.

This was a complex project; the roofs have many intricate details as well as large rooflights. Owing to the pupils sensitivity to noise and distraction, it had originally been decided that only work that would in no way interfere with the students could be carried out during term time.

The implications of this were that any work that was required in the main teaching areas would have to be postponed to the 2016 summer holidays!  However, thanks to our excellent project management, combined with the skill of, and care shown by, our contractors - Central Roofing, the initial decision was revoked and work was able to be continued throughout the winter months. As a result, and to the delight of the school management team, the whole re-roofing project was completed ahead of schedule, without disruption to pupils or staff,  leaving a leak-free building and far smaller heating bills!
