Project Newton, St. Laurence Church, East Harptree
Fantastic to see that works are underway at St. Laurence Church, the only Grade 2* listed building in East Harptree, Somerset.
The project includes the uncovering of artwork dating from as far back as the 13th Century, restoration of stained-glass windows and bells, along with urgent repairs to the Newton Monument and general fabric of the building. Access improvements are also being made to the church and surrounding grounds, providing more opportunities for local people to get involved and learn about the heritage in and around St. Laurence.
This initiative will reinvigorate the church as a place of worship, whilst also helping to improve the lives of local people in South Bristol.
On this community engagement project, Hookway have assisted in obtaining the funding required to carry out the works and are also acting as Quantity Surveyors.
Named ‘Project Newton’ after the Church’s famous Newton monument, this initiative will reinvigorate the church as a place of worship whilst also helping to improve the lives of local people in South Bristol. It is due to be completed in Autumn 2022 and is part funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
We look forward to providing further updates in the coming months!
