St Peter’s High School is a Catholic Academy School and Sixth Form Centre, situated on Stroud Road in the Tuffley area of Gloucester. The Sixth Form building itself was well constructed approximately 20 years ago, but the internal layout had become somewhat of a labyrinth with many small rooms and a design that was not well suited to the needs of the students. Hookway was therefore appointed to work with Contractors Lancer Scott in order to redesign this layout, providing a complete internal re-modelling and refurbishment of the Sixth Form Block. The project was self-funded by the school.
Complete Design and Project Management Services
The project started in June 2021 with Hookway presenting multiple design options for the school to evaluate. The chosen scheme was then tendered before refurbishment works began, with Hookway providing full project management services throughout. Works included the complete refurbishment of the student washrooms, whilst internal walls were removed elsewhere in order to create open-plan study areas for independent and group work. All new internal surfaces were also specified and installed including new flooring, walls and suspended ceiling with integrated lighting.
Work completed ready for the start of the new academic year
All works were completed by the end of August 2021. Indeed, the school was particularly impressed that the newly designed building was fully open in time for the start of the new academic year, despite the well publicised delays with materials across the construction sector. This highly successful project has led to a total transformation of the Sixth Form Center, which now provides a modern, business-like learning environment for students to thrive in.
Business Manager, Jo Franklin, said: “We are delighted with the standard of workmanship shown during this important refurbishment project, and the professional design and project management services provided by Hookway were critical to achieving a successful outcome. We now have a modern, dynamic facility which truly meets the needs of our Sixth Form students and teaching staff.”
